Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a serious yet preventable condition. DVT occurs when a thrombus (blood clot) forms in one of the large veins, usually in the legs, and partially or completely blocks blood flow. The clot could move into the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism (PE), which is life threatening. In fact, PE causes more deaths in the USA each year than AIDS and breast cancer combined! Deep vein thrombosis can be prevented, so learn about the risk factors and reduce your chances of developing a DVT. Read more.
